INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing
Deuce MC,
the Intelligent Video Scaler. With Deuce MC, you now have the ability to enjoy
high-resolution, film-like images from any standard video source, including broadcast or cable TV ,video tape, DVD
and laser disc. Deuce MC offers a unique
user-selectable
Motion Compensation
feature that can be set based on
the specific type of input source image.
When viewing NTSC sources, the motion compensation feature enables Deuce MC users to select one of three
different motion compensation techniques: adaptive frame (inverse 3:2 pulldown) for original film material, vertical
temporal and static mesh, or one of three automatic modes that automatically analyze the video input. (When viewing
PAL sources, for which inverse 3:2 pulldown is not applicable, Deuce MC offers a selection of the two remaining
techniques, applied individually or in combination.) Because each technique is set specifically for the type of input
image, the result is the clearest, crispest picture quality possible, making Deuce MC ideal for Home Theater and
Professional A/V applications. Packed with other great features such as three scaled output resolutions (852x480,
800x600 and 1024x768) and standard line doubling and quadrupling outputs, Deuce MC is one incredibly versatile
scaler. Additional features include Composite, S-Video and Y-C
B
-C
R
component inputs and RGB or Y-C

component outputs, plus an RS-232 remote. An internal power supply and simple, intuitive user-interface round out
this sleek, compact unit.

OPERATION

adjustments. However, you may want to take advantage of Deuce MC's additional motion comepnsation feature,
as it is designed to provide you with optimal picture quality.
SELECTING AN INPUT:
There are three buttons on the front panel for directly selecting one of the three inputs. The LED that is lit indicates
the active selection. The three input options are:

S-Video (Y/C)
Y-C
B
-C
R
(component)
SELECTING AN OUTPUT FORMAT:
Deuce MC provides the five output formats listed below. Pressing the output format button on the front panel will
cycle through the choices. The LED that is on indicates the current output format.

CHANGING MOTION COMPENSATION:
The motion compensation feature allows the user to match the motion compensation technique to the input source
image. The unit can be set for a particular technique or for one of three automatic modes*. When set in automatic
mode the Deuce MC will analyze the input source and choose the appropriate compensation. Pressing the motion
compensation button will cycle through the six possible settings listed below. When set for a specific technique, the
LED next to the motion compensation modes on the front panel will be lit. When in an automatic mode, all the motion
compensation techniques that are included in the automatic mode will be lit.
Adaptive Frame (AF, inverse 3:2 pulldown)
NTSC only
Vertical Temporal (VT)
Static Mesh (SM)
Auto 1 (AF,VT, SM) NTSC only
Auto 2 (AF, VT) NTSC only
Auto 3 (SM, VT)
Original source material is 24 FPS film
Original source material is video with motion
Original source material is video with little
or no motion
Auto modes will automatically select
the best compensation technique to
use on a frame by frame basis
*Deuce MC offers six motion compensation settings, including three automatic modes, when receiving NTSC input. When
PAL input is provided, the Adaptive Frame mode (AF) is disabled. Because AF is used in the Auto 1 and Auto 2 settings,
these are also disabled. Therefore, Deuce MC offers a total of three settings when processing PAL input: VT, SM and Auto 3.
The unit will rotate only through these settings when the motion compensation button is pushed.

TROUBLESHOOTING
IF THIS IS YOUR PROBLEM:
THEN CHECK TO SEE:
Nothing Works or
No Video Output:
Are any of the LEDs lit? Is the Deuce MC plugged into the AC wall outlet?
Is video source connected to the unit and is it putting out a video signal as
viewed on a video monitor?
Is the VCR or video source in the proper mode to output video as
required?
Have you selected the proper input on the unit (VIDEO, S-VIDEO or
COMPONENT) for the source selected as the active input?
Is the source of the video ON?
There is Video on the Output
If you are using 5 BNC or RCA connectors to the output display, try reversing
Display but it appears out of sync:
the H and V sync connectors.
Make sure the display is capable of supporting the resolution you selected on
the front of the unit. Try a lower resolution.
